Adnan Sami gets notice on Mumbai properties

Pakistani singer-composer Adnan Sami has been issued a notice by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for owning eight flats and five car parking spaces in Mumbai. A fine of Rs.20 lakh has also been slapped on the singer.

The ED order mentions that Sami’s application for buying property in Mumbai was rejected by the Reserve Bank of India in 2003 owning to his Pakistani nationality.

Sami, however, denies any knowledge of the rejection. He said, “In fact my bank loan was also cleared and the property registered in my name. I had no idea that the RBI has rejected my application.”

Sami had purchased the flats in 2003 at the cost of Rs.2.53 crore and had taken a loan of Rs 1.5 crore for the purchase.

Sami has been served the confiscation order under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
